Mountain Run Winery

Our Wines

Growing great grapes takes time, and we expect our first estate harvest to be in 2017. In the interim, Mountain Run Winery is proud to partner with Altillo Vineyards from Hurt, Virginia, to bring you a selection of top-notch Virginia wines. The father/son team down at Altillo have been our mentors over the past year and have taught us vineyard development and care and the secrets to quality wine-making.

Cabernet Franc

An approachable earthy core with hints of cranberry and cherry and a smooth finish characteristic of French oak aging. This is our owner’s favorite red wine.

If you like Shiraz you’re going to love this one! Big fruit notes and hints of spice and smoke framed against soft tannins and moderate oak. This is the 2013 vintage and has had an extra year to age in the bottle, meaning that the flavors are smoother and more refined than younger wines. Pairs well with red meat, strong cheeses and pasta with red sauces.

Winner of a silver medal in the 2017 Virginia State Fair, our signature wine in a bottle that evokes Culpeper’s location on the 1750’s Fry-Jefferson map. This Bordeaux-blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon has the perfect balance between dark fruit notes, oak and tannins. Perfect to enjoy now or to cellar away for the holidays, this Meritage can go toe-to-toe with wines twice the price.

Barrel-fermented and barrel-aged in French and American oak, our Merlot boasts  a complex flavor profile with cherry and chocolate notes complimented by bright acidity on the finish.

Dog Rock Rose - Sold until June 2018

Made from Shiraz, this off-dry (2% residual sugar) rose-style wine features the trademark Shiraz spice with vibrant strawberry and cherry. Named after our steadfast (concrete) guard dog, our Dog Rock Rose is the perfect picnic wine to pair with our great selection of cheeses and charcuterie at the winery.

Farmhouse White

Slightly sweet and citrus, our farmhouse white is a completely unique blend of whites that is both surprising and delicious!

Gold medal winner at the 2017 Virginia State Fair, this old-world style Chardonnay is barrel-fermented and barrel-aged in French and American oak for eight months and  features layers of rich, soft, fruit and vanilla flavors complemented by an elegant finish.

Hard Apple Cider

Made from Sperryville orchard apples, our farmhouse cider is crisp, dry and refreshing. We use a rotating tap of recipes so every batch is completely unique.

Got a thing for sweet wine? Well then our Traminette is the wine for you. This sweet (4% residual sugar) Traminette features peach and honey notes and is the ideal picnic wine for a hot summer day.

Our Viognier features notes of peach, guava and pineapple with just a hint of sweetness on the nose.

Culpeper Crimson

Completely unique, this Norton and Crimson Cabernet blend is not one to miss! With subtle notes of clove and black fruits, this wine is a perfect red for a picnic or dinner with friends.

Elderberry Wine

Slightly sweet with a surprising citrus finish. Our elderberry wine is made from our farm’s own elderberries and aged for 6 months. This wine is perfect when served chilled on a hot summer day. Limited quantities available.

First made in 7000 BC, mead is the oldest known alcoholic beverage. This tasty treat, made by fermenting honey and water, boasts a light and sweet flavor that is entirely unique! Our mead is made from local Rixeyville honey and has been aged 10 months to create a soft and easy to drink honey wine. With only limited quantities available, this mead will first be released as a wine club exclusive.
